Scientist, Tissue Culture (Portland)

Reports to: Director of Laboratory Services

Position Purpose: This position owns the propagation of specific crops to ensure delivery of high-quality plantlets to the greenhouse and ultimately our customers by developing protocols and improving processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct activities that require specialized knowledge and the broad application of tissue culture and micropropagation techniques
  • Plan, design, coordinate and implement research plans for specific crops or projects
  • Use in-depth knowledge of tissue culture and micropropagation techniques for the continuous discovery and development of technologies, procedures, and products
  • Develop work plans and drive execution by mentoring staff and monitoring project progress
  • Contribute to the production pipeline with hands-on laboratory work
  • Take initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment


  • Ph.D. in plant biology, cell biology or related field or at least 10 years of progressive responsibilities in plant tissue culture or micro-propagation
  • Ability to solve problems through deductive reasoning and the application of scientific principles
  • Capable of design and interpretation of scientific experiments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain project notes and compile reports
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team is important
  • Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to focus on meeting the needs of internal customers
  • Willingness and capacity to learn and acquire relevant new skill sets
