Position: Senior Software Developer (Seattle, WA)

Position summary: Phytelligence is looking for a full stack software developer to join our team. This is a multi-disciplined position designed to help with software architecture, business analysis, design, development, implementation, testing and training for scientific software applications developed for our laboratory and greenhouse operation teams. The position will provide software development support for multiple sites in Washington, Oregon, and other locations as we expand our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build scalable web-based database systems, APIs and tools, for scientific and greenhouse operation teams, hosted in cloud (Azure, AWS)
  • Partner with scientists and greenhouse staff to gather requirements, design, develop, test and document systems
  • Partner with ERP team to develop key APIs for consumption of assay results and additional data flow gaps
  • Holistic approach when developing new systems for scale and tools resulting in no overlap of functionality
  • Selective in tools used for long-term supportability
  • Develop clear documentation within code and online help within software

 Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience as a software developer/engineer
  • 5+ years of experience working in the agricultural, biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • 3+ years developing scientific-based software applications
  • Experience in database design and development
  • Experience with hosting applications fully in cloud environment (Azure, AWS)
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python
  • Experience working with Next Generation Sequencing data
  • Experience with database design and development (SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Experience creating APIs for integration with third-party software products (e.g. ERP)
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau, SpotFire)
  • Experience developing with Java or C++ and frameworks
  • Consistently excels in software development engineering best practices: source code control, unit testing, in-code documentation and automated build environments
  • Background with genomics, molecular biology or next generation sequencing a plus
  • Experience with Agile software development a plus
  • Highly organized with ability to juggle multiple priorities while providing excellent customer service
  • Responds creatively and simply to continuous change and steady growth environment
  • Solutions-oriented team player with high level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Seeks out information, training, and other resources needed to facilitate continual professional development necessary to be successful in this position
  • Strong and clear communicator (written and verbal) who develops simple designs for complex problems
